Hi Everybody,

I had a great time this morning at the discussion on co-ed LTHS (classes of 75-76)!

Please keep me in mind for anything along these lines in the future.

Thanks for all the organizing I know went into it and for being there, go Lane!

Wish that I could have gone. Too much to do and not enough time!

So - here's a throwback for Andrew Flor (who must be the Blackhawk's most avid historian and fan) and all our other resident Blackhawk devotees.

From the time I was 11-15 years old, in the neighbohood that I grew-up - Albany park, I worked at a drugstore - called 'Black Drugs', which was located on the corner of Sacramento and Montrose.

In that time, the pharmacist/ owner of Black Drugs was Sid Stern, who was also claimed and otherwise known to be the 'pharmacist to the Blackhawks' (as well as - to the Bears and the Bulls).

And, while I can't say whether it had any correlation to Sid's duties - as their 'pharmacist' (although - it seemed likely), or, if it stemmed from something different, in any event, on a number of weekday-evenings during the year, we would close the store early (and a line would form well down the block) for certain players that would come and sign autographs in the store.

Black Drugs has long ago closed - but, this picture is remnant from one of those 'autograph' evenings at the store (it is signed to 'Sid Stern' and his wife - 'Sherri'). I figure it was taken in 1971 or 1972. It is Keith Magnuson, Sid Stern, and Cliff Koroll.

John, I was just with Cliff a few weeks ago at a Hawks game. RIP Maggie. Both U of Denver grads drafted by the Blackhawks in 1969 along with Jim Wiste.

Today was a BLAST sharing stories of what the early-girly years at Lane were like, with a room full of seniors!  Thanks Kelly Houston Clarkson and Maja Wiesinger Ramirez for adding some Bicentennial flavor to the panel discussion.  We had to explain what Jack-in-the-Box was, what Greasers wore, hallguards, t-squares, mimeograph machines, graduating in the stadium, and oh so many other things. So much fun!  P.S. these kids are scary-smart!

Bicentennials REPRESENTED in Mesa this past weekend with the biggest group from any single class year!  Thanks to Janet (Peterson) Ingraffia for the brand identity program, (sashes and buttons) even if it meant we had to own up to our age.  Kris (Erickson) Hallowell, Steven Hines & PJ, Janet & Peter Ingraffia, Georgette (Mihalko) Rath & Johannes, Milan Norum & Kathy and yours truly, with a cameo appearance by John Todesco on day 2.  Now we're really psyched for a 60th birthday party this fall!

Please make "our" 60th on Sunday October 28th so I have a better excuse to take the next day (my 60th) off work!

Hey Bicentennials... I need your help!  The Alumni Assn is pulling together a display of historical artifacts and photos of Lane's history (you may have heard, Apple is unveiling their new product at Lane Tech on the 27th and the school is in major spruce-up mode). These items will be located in display cases in the Civics Room.  I am looking to borrow some specific items if anyone is willing to loan them:

Slide rule, early TI calculator, computer punch cards and any other early computer stuff, art work, drafting/arch drawings, letterman/woman sweater, ugly blue gymsuit, copies of underground newspaper, ethnic costumes from International Days, musical instrument/band items, Cheerleader or Pom uniform, football helmet, and anything else that would have "technical significance". We are in pretty good shape with shop projects. If you are will to loan and are local, please give me a shout.  We're installing this on Friday.  Thanks!

I have a TI calculator from roughly 1974 that my parents bought me to use in physics class at Lane.:) I also have a T-Square and my drawings from both years of drafting.  Also have my hall guard I’d if that might be interesting. Give me a call if you might want these items for the 27th.

Michelle,

I never saved any of my old drawings, but my Dad (Class of June 1943) kept a whole portfolio of his mechanical drawings.  Best of all they're still in in the original, tattered Charley Riesz envelope.  The pencil line drawings are probably too light to use but the inked drawings still look good and were done better than anything I ever did back in the 70's.  There are some bonus items too, like Lane Daily copies and his Foundry class notebook.  If you think you can use anything, I'll be glad to loan or donate.

John thanks but I think we're covered.  I found some incredible architectural detail drawings in color from 1914 in our archives, and beautiful renderings from the 50s, a few foundry and mechanical drawings from our era and someone from the 90s came through with drawings but Frank hit the motherlode when it comes to drafting and the TI calculator!  Check it out!

Still searching for fortran stuff, punch cards and the elusive blue gymsuit we girls loved so dearly.  Need by Thursday morning.  Thanks everybody!

Michelle: I found some punch cards. Pretty sure they are from computer class at Lane, may be from my college days, but a punch card is a punch card, right? Let me know where and when to drop them off.
