Ken Ortiz
Hello all,
Unfortunately, I did not get to attend or see the TV broadcast of our Alumni night Cubs game on Wednesday evening. I did get to hear most of the game on the radio. Unfortunately (again), I did not get to experience that wild ninth inning as I went to bed with the score still tied 3-3.
I am sure that for those folks who went to the game, it was an incredible experience to witness that comeback and to partake in the frenzy of victory and celebration at the Friendly Confines. So to those who went to the game and celebrated Lane Tech Alumni night, I invite you to please chime in and let the rest of us in on how your experience went that night. I know it was one of those "I was at that game" stories you can share with others years later.
Also, for those who watched the Cubs TV broadcast that evening, were there any Lane Tech mentions by the announcers or anything Lane that was shown on TV? Please let us know.
I was fortunate (somewhat), as the next day, after I heard about their comeback in the ninth, I discovered that the entire TV broadcast of the Cubs half of the ninth inning was replayed on the MLB Cubs website. So I got to see it for myself. Not the same as being there in person or watching it on TV real time, but it was still an awesome experience.
Here is the link to the TV broadcast of the bottom of the ninth if you have not seen it.

A couple of really cool things about that broadcast:
1) Several times during Jason Heyward's at-bat but before his Grand Slam, the broadcast cut away to an older woman with very distinct fingernails crossing her fingers and raising her arms to the heavens above before each pitch. Too bad they did not cut to her to show her reaction when Heyward hit his Grand Slam.
2) It was really cool seeing Jason Heyward "looking out for" TV field reporter Kelly Crull during his on the field interview after the game as he warned her to get out of the way right before he got his "Gatorade Bath". Kelly told him when they resumed the interview that she greatly appreciated his looking out for her.
I have a few other observations that I picked up from that broadcast, but those are more "basebally intensive".
