Taina I Lahdekorpi (Seaman)

Aloha Fellow '76 Classmates 🌺!

Even though I haven't posted anything for a long time, love reading all that comes my way! ( BTW, Greg, with the heart issue, I had a similar SVT event and the ablation took care of it!...You'll be good to go!)

What's most impressive is the memory you all have of names, teachers, classes, etc. Holy smokes! I'm thinking. what's an ACT? Went to college, so had to take one? But don't have kids or grandkids so that's my excuse I'm sticking with. But here's another excuse and acronym I was diagnosed with, CRS. Yes, we all have it to varying degrees as we age gracefully. Mine was probably accelerated by the peroxide blonde treatments over the years. The fun part of Can't Remember S#%&, is learning something new all the time. Knew it at one point, forgot it and now, it's new again! Constantly learning! 👍

The homecoming photo was a blast from the past and I have a hard copy of it in a box called "LIFE", You all are a part of mine and am so looking forward to our 50th reunion!!! (I'm expecting reminders so I dont forget...🤩)

Great to hear from you Taina! I hope we'll be able to see you again at our 50th! Be sure to keep up at our 50th Reunion site her on Classcreator!
You know... we all see something as we get older and we just hope it doesn't slow us down! I've got family, dog family and job keeping me plenty busy!

If you were to peer into my heart you'd find I've been part COW for a few years! That cow valve gives me a very distinctive MOO now!

I guess... no more cow tippin' though!
See ya'at the reunion!

Hey Taina, I definitely have CRS. My husband affectionately calls me "Dory" after the Finding Nemo character. But I do recall from the 60th Birthday gathering that you have not changed a bit, beautiful woman, you!

HI Taina, Always good to hear from you! I've been super busy lately and haven't been on here much myself. I don't really go onto Facebook, I don't have time. Anyway, big hugs! Georgette

HI Michelle, I relly wish we could reply to specific messages on here. Is there any way to configure the system for this? Thanks, Georgette

Grace,

When my wife calls me Dory I just reply, "I speak whale...oooo..oo.ooooo!"

Gregory Calvimontes

Hey Tania!!! Unfortunately they could not squeeze me in on Fri, so they kicked me out and I'm back again on Monday. Crossing my fingers that I don't have to get a pacemaker, as it puts me out of condition for a month, and I still have to go to work as I own the company and do the design and programming on projects.

Looking forward to the 50th. Question, how many of you are planning on bringing spouses to the reunion?

Need to tell my wife with a long lead time as she owns a Wedding Planning company, and she is booking into late next year already.

Re Message #1988:
Greg, I hope your surgery goes well. Waiting must be a b*tch, sorry it got put over.
I'm planning to bring my husband Marc. He's better at parties than I am!

Anybody else recognize it?

I've been there, when I was a teenager. Irving Park & Pulaski?

Used to go there often! Them, Zephyrs on Ravenswood and maybe Wilson by the Y, and the place on Montrose by Clark that had a train set up on the wall by the ceiling.

Drove all the way from Rogers Park just to get ice cream at Buffalo's!

RE: #1990

Yes Michelle, Buffalo's was yummy!

I've been to Buffalo's more than a few times.  Great ice cream sundaes.  More recently, I've been to a Buffalo's Restaurant out in Arlington Hts or Buffalo Grove on Lake Cook Road and Arlington Hts Rd (I think).  They had old pictures hanging on the wall including the one that Michelle posted here.  Sadly, they shut down a few years ago so I think they are all part of history now.

Yes, Andrew, that is a T-Bird in the picture and I think an early 70's Plymouth Duster in the foreground!

I have an aunt lives out in Arlington Heights. Whenever I'm in town she HAS to go to Buffalo's on Lake Cook Road for breakfast! She's there so often they all know her name and her regular breakfast is on the table within minutes! So, I'm there whenever I'm in Chicago for a visit.

Buffalo Fans, I'm sorry to report that the last time Monica McAvinney and I attempted to meet there, the restaurant was closed down. I'm not exactly sure when that was, probably 6 months ago, but it didn't just look like they were going to be remodeling. So, if you're going to head out that way, better Phone First!

Another of our old haunts since 1963 and Icon of our times takes a final bow... I will miss dem Ribs!

Gale Street Inn at 4914 N. Milwaukee Ave, a Jefferson Park institution, closes for good without any advance word to customers.

“I’m tired, it’s hard,” owner George Karzas said after suddenly shutting down the Northwest Side restaurant that’s been around since 1963. He would only add that “business is good. It’s not business, it’s staffing..."

Any golfers out there?  Earlybird pricing for our annual outing ends in 10 days. We have folks from '72, '73, '74', 75, '77, and '78 signed up but no Bicentennials! And if you don't golf, come to the dinner after. No big money grab... just a modest silent auction inspired this year by Lane's International Days, and a chance to mingle with some crazy Laneites. All the hockey guys will be there so come on track and football!

On July 9th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm we'll be having a mini reunion for art majors and Div 651 alumni at the Alumni Association Office where we'll be honoring this amazing woman who had such an influence on so many of us. Terry Boelter, (now Theresa DuBose) will be visiting from Atlanta and we can't wait to see her! If you are interested in joining us, email me at michellemweiner@gmail.

Hello fellow 76er's....

An update on our 50th reunion celebration planning activities to help keep everyone aware.

* As previously reported, we are targeting September 19, 2026 for the big event. So pencil that date in, but for those of you out of town don't book your airfares yet. Nothing has been finalized, and dates could change.

* Per the survey responses received earlier this year, a school tour was high on the list of alumni wants. And we'd love nothing more than to coordinte a school tour for the weekend of the event and show off our school. So, our group with the support of the Alumni Association will work to include a school tour as desired.

* We are reviewing the types of venues that would serve our needs, as well as location. And we are utilizing the survey responses to help guide our direction and decisions. We will aslo review some recent/past reunion venues and learn from those reunion coordinators what worked and what didn't. At this point, time is on our side in finding a venue that meets most of our needs and wants. Once we get a few options on a short list, we'll then look at narrowing down to a couple of finalists.

* Going forward, our group will meet monthly between now and the main event to keep activities moving and communication flowing.

If you have suggestions/comments, feel free to reach out to any of the following classmates who are planning our reunion:

Georgette Rath

Peter Hong

Per Pearson

Robert Cole

Debra Skatchke

Grace Danziger

Ed McCarthy

Pete Ingraffia

Michele Weiner (LTAA)

And if you are in cointact with classmates who may not be Alumni Association members or have not joined this Bicentennial web page through Class Creator, please let them know a 50th reunion is being planned, and we'd love to see them and reconnect.

We'll continue posting updates on this site and through the Alumni Association newsletter. Stay tuned!

So I got evicted from UPMC Presbiterian on Thurs and have been resting a bit. Wound up with a pacemaker, so I'm now bionic. Have to take it easy and have my staff schlep my laptop around for the next month or so.
Man, getting old sucks.
But it beats the alternative!
