Hey gang!
All this class ring talk had me curious. I took mine into a jeweler friends to get 50 years worth of oxidation cleaned off. With the price of gold what it is. He figures the 10k LTHS men's ring has about $1500 worth of gold in it right now!
So go out and get those puppies shined up for the reunion!
Actually, for those of you with any good gold jewelery now is a good time to get it reappraised. Gold is up near $5000 an once.
I am to remember I bought my class ring for around $65 or $85... 50 years ago!

Mr. Cole... your post is timely. I just heard back from Jostens today. The price of gold is OUTRAGEOUS and they expect it to get worse.  If anyone wants an "Alumni" ring, Jostens has provided some information.

Here is the link for options and pricing:

LANE TECH COLLEGE PREP ALUMNI RING

Here is a rendering of what the alumni ring would look like.  I have also asked if they still have the molds for 1975 or 1977 which might look more like ours. I'll report back

Bob...shouldn"t be any oxidation on a gold item.   Residue, maybe.  Wear your ring....it stays clean and shiney..   I wear mine when out and about and at least once a week, I run into a Lane alum who sees the ring and a conversation ensues.     Cleaning your ring.....  A toothbrush and some toothpaste is a great way to clean and polish any gold jewelery if you don't have a gold jewelery cleaning cream/paste. Toothpaste has pumice in it and will shine that item up nicely. Plain soap and water goes a long way too for any residue or grime.   Maybe I'll bring some jewelery cleaner to the reunion!   For me, the ring is worth exponentially more as a keepsake than its gold value.   As of March 22, gold has plummeted to 4500 and silver too, way down, now  at 68 an ounce.    I recall paying 59 bucks for the yellow gold mens ring in '75 when we ordered them.  Gold back then traded between 140 and 160 an ounce.  This was shortly after the US government at the time allowed citizens to own/buy gold again. (January of 1975)

Funny story, I often loaned classmates $5.00 ( common loan amount back then....nickel bag maybe?  ) and took class rings as collateral.  Most paid it back however some never did and I gave them back their rings prior to graduation because to me, them having their ring was important.

Looking forward to seeing a shit ton of rings September 19 !!!  Go Lane Go!

Ed. Only pure gold doesn't tarnish. Our rings are 10k and they tarnish because of the metals they're alloyed with.
24k - no tarnish
18k - some
14k - more
10k - even more

You're all making me wish I had had the foresight to purchase a gold class ring back then, rather than the sterling silver. As I mentioned in a previous post, it only fits my pinky finger now, but not securely, so I may need to wear it to the reunion on a chain.

My fingers must have shrunk since then. I'm going to have to Cut down one of those Dr. Sholl's foot pads to wear mine to the reunion!

Wow, a lot of 1976 class athletes in the Lettermen ("Letterpeople" just doesn't sound right) photo! Thanks for posting it here, Michelle!

Great beer, great band, great cause!  Join other Laneites a week from Friday at Une Annee, an alumni-owned craft brewery in Niles just north of the Leaning Tower. Think of it as a reunion preview! Proceeds go to the Go Lane Go student transportation fund which underwrites field trips, competitions and college tours for students who might not otherwise be able to afford these important "extras". It would be great to see all the old Pom Pom girls there! Get tickets here: BIG AL'S BASH #3 (And thanks to Jeff Juhasz and Andy Flor for their sponsorships!)

Hey there '76 Alumni! I trust y'all received the Alumni Newsletter last night. Guess what I saw? There's a Legacy Lunch scheduled for the Thursday before our reunion - how fortuitous! For those of us flying in, and locals, another optional opportunity to enjoy LTHS camaraderie if we're able to make it to the Legacy Lunch. It's the same day as the optional/additional fee Wrigley Field Tour, but I believe that's at about 4:00 or 4:30 pm. I understand that folks want to keep the 50th Reunion Weekend as affordable as possible, so underlining that the Thursday 9/17 gatherings are optional, the Friday 9/18 Alumni Office Oktoberfest is FREE, and the Saturday 9/19 School Tour is FREE (please register though). Michelle, please let us know when the Wrigley Field Tour will be opened up for registrations. This is so exciting!

Thanks Grace. Last year the Alumni Association launched an annual private tour of Wrigley Field in honor of the dedication of our school building at Addison & Western. It is held on, or as close to September 17th, which is the day 9,000 people walked from Wrigley to Lane to open the building.  Since this falls close to our reunion, I am offering presale tickets to the event for Bicentennials. While ticketing hasn't opened yet, and won't for a while, I am sharing this for those of you who are making travel plans and might want to start your celebration weekend a little early. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

Will we be able to park at Lane? And are we old farts expected to walk back as well?

04/17/26 06:15 PM #1936

Michelle Milkovic (Weiner)

For the Wrigley tour, we don't actually walk from Lane to Wrigley. That's crazy talk, Greg. We just "commemorate" it. That said, there is a lot of walking throughout the Park, including stairs and ramps, and not all of the spots are accessible, so if you have mobility challenges, we can plan ahead with the Cubs.

Since the 17th is a Thursday afternoon on a non-game day it's pretty easy to get parking by the Park.  The tour lasts about an hour and a half and if we get the same guide as last year, (a 2009 Lane alum who supervises all the other guides), it'll be even longer. He was fantastic.

Afterwards, folks are able to enjoy any of the bars/restaurants around Wrigley. A couple usually give discounts to people who are coming from a tour.  I'll find out which ones this season.  Here are some pics from last year. We'll open up registration on the Lane Tech Alumni site at the end of May. 50 spots will be available and tickets will be $45 for LTAA members, probably $10 more for non-members.

Well, while Janet and I were out buying some new Skechers at the outlet mall in Ellenton, FL we came across these shoes.  Makes you think they were designed with Lane in mind. Unfortunately, they did not have my size.

There will be display tables at the reunion party with LT memorabilia on display..   We are still looking for the extemely rare 'right and left hand T square combo'.  If anyone still has theirs, please let any of us on the party planning team know.

As a reminder, the end date for the early bird reduced fee for the party is just over a week away - May 1st.

Party time....T minus 5 months!

I have the extremely rare Pro-Line top down. Left to right T Square model that was sold exclusively at McGovern's but I got mine for pennies on the dollar out of this senior's car trunk in the Lane parking lot back in 1972. I still use it to this day.It has been my lucky charm and it's magical, mystical powers have been instrumental in helping me design countless millions of dollars of trade show exhibits, museum projects, showrooms and mobile marketing vehicles over the last 50 years. That senior had no clue what he sold me. What a sucker he was. I took him to the cleaners on that deal! 😆 🤣 😂
